Booneville is a small eastern Kentucky city. There were approximately 76 people living in Booneville in 2016 according to the United States Census Bureau. The city is located within the boundaries of Owsley County and serves as its seat of government. Booneville is one of 41 other communities in Owsley County.

The site where modern-day Booneville is located was once known as Boones Station. It was given this name because Daniel Boone once camped near the site and the Moore family, late 18th century settlers, lived in the area. In 1843, Elias Moore donated land for a new county. Booneville was chosen to serve as the seat of government and the city was incorporated in 1846.
